About the Genealogy Collection

A major focal point of the John F. Germany Public Library is its genealogy collection - one of the largest in the southeastern United States. The wide array of print, microform and electronic resources benefit both new and long time family history researchers.

With a geographic emphasis on Florida, the southeast region, original thirteen colonies and all other states bordering on the Mississippi River, the collection includes numerous magazines and journals as well as extensive Federal census and Soundex holdings. It also covers a wide range of topics including how-to guides, county and local histories and indexes of records such as marriage, death, cemetery, probate, military, pension and passenger arrival.

The genealogy collection is open to the general public - no library card required - during regular library hours, but materials are restricted to in-library use only. Items do not circulate and may not be borrowed through Interlibrary Loan.

When you visit the The Florida History & Genealogy Library on 2 West, staff is always available to guide you over your research stumbling blocks. You can also visit the Learning & Research Genealogy & History page to connect with a wealth of online genealogical resources.
