The C. Blythe Andrews, Jr. Public Library, formerly known as the College Hill Branch Library, is located on Martin Luther King Boulevard in East Tampa. It is a medium-sized library with a collection of approximately 33,000 items including books, recorded books, magazines, music CDs, and DVDs. Internet access is provided through public library computers and WiFi connectivity. The library routinely offers a variety of programs and computer training classes for children, teens, and adults. A large community room and a small meeting room are available for public use, and an after-hours book drop is located at the building entrance.
Friends of the Library
This branch receives support from the Ada T. Payne Friends of the Urban Libraries, active supporters and advocates for the library. Proceeds from their fundraising efforts directly benefit this branch, the Robert W. Saunders, Sr. Library, and the West Tampa Library. Bookstores run by the Friends are located in all three locations.
The library first opened as the College Hill Public Library on June 16, 1989 in an 800 square foot, double wide trailer which served as a temporary facility until more permanent quarters were built. The current building opened in February 1994, and was renamed in 2010 for C. Blythe Andrews, Jr., a publisher of the Florida Sentinel Bulletin.
The C. Blythe Andrews, Jr. Library features two lithographs in the main reading room area: No Place Like Home, 1990 by Louis Delsarte and With Honors, 1989 by Synthia Saint James.
Twenty-one Burgert Brothers' black-and-white photograph reproductions primarily depicting local African-American images are also included in the library's art collection.
