Situated in eastern Hillsborough County between the communities of Seffner and Mango, the Seffner-Mango Branch Library is 5,200 square feet of storefront next to Wal-Mart in the busy Mango Shopping Center at the corner of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. and C.R. 579, with easy access and plenty of parking.

SMB opened on December 28, 1998 with over 32,000 books, videos, and books on tape. In the following year, we checked out over 114,000 pieces of library material, registered more than 2500 new customers, and filled 12,265 holds. Seffner's history can be traced back to before 1842, making it one of Hillsborough County's earliest communities. Just southeast of Lake Thonotosassa and consisting of the present-day communities of Seffner and Dover, the area was originally known as Simmon's Hammock, after the Reverend Daniel Simmon who migrated from Georgia in 1829 to establish a Baptist mission near the lake.

The building of Henry Plant's South Florida Railroad in 1883 made "boom towns" of many of the communities along its route through Hillsborough County, including Seffner and Mango, although Mango was originally homesteaded as early as 1849, over thirty years before the appearance of the first railroad tracks. Surrounded by elementary and middle schools, the Seffner-Mango Branch is quickly becoming a popular homework center, where students have access to the Accelerated Reading Lists for their own school, and a wealth of reference material from various print and electronic resources, including the Internet.

We also have a huge and continually renewed collection of popular reading material, including the latest bestsellers, as well as videos and book on tape. The Seffner-Mango Branch Library is less than 15 minutes driving time from the Brandon Regional Library.
