Cirkut Negatives & Photographs

Image: View of Hillsborough County Court House and downtown Tampa
This domed building used to be the Hillsborough County Courthouse, located at Franklin and Lafayette St. (now Kennedy Blvd.) It has since been demolished. In the background to the right is Tampa City Hall.
This image is not from a Cirkut negative. (72/37869)
Preservation work on Cirkut negatives has been accomplished, for the most part. Cirkut images are panoramic views taken with a special camera which could rotate up to 360o and produce a sweeping image.

There are 430 Cirkut negatives approximately 8" high and up to five feet long.

These negatives were produced on nitrate film and have deteriorated severely over the years. The library recently embarked on a project to create new negatives and prints from the old negatives. The project has been completed and the photos are presently being cataloged. In the future, digital images of these prints will be available through the library's online catalog.
