The accelerated reader program

Schools using the Accelerated Reader (AR) program have different title lists. If you’re reading for credit, use the list your own school provides for you, and know your assigned reading level. Find titles you want to try. Write them down and bring them to the Public Library.

From The Library’s Computer

¨ Click “Library Catalog.” Type the title, then click “Search.”

¨ Click the correct title. Then click “Show Details.”

¨ Click titles in Bold Print (owned by the library you’re in). This library should be listed first.

¨ Look at “Status” to see if it is “Checked In.”

¨ Write down “Call Number” to find the book.

¨ If it is NOT checked in, click “Place A Hold.” Type your library card number. Type your phone number’s last four digits. Click “Next.” Click “Next” again. Click “OK.”

¨ When your hold is available, you will be notified by phone or mail. Please pick up holds at the front desk of your library within ten days.

If You Don’t Have Your List

¨ Some schools have Web sites listing their AR titles. Check http://www.sdhc.k12.fl.us and click “schools” then pick the school level, and find your school.

¨ Some branch libraries have AR lists provided by some nearby schools.

¨ Our “Best Sellers & Other Reading Lists” has titles (listed by reading levels) which MAY be on the lists.
