Using A Keyboard

There are two types of keyboards that are popular today, the "Dvorak" and the "Qwerty". These are shown below. The idea behind this page is to provide you a practice area to develop your keyboarding skills as you learn to navigate the Internet as well as your public library. Please begin with Skill Test 1 and work your way up to Skill Test 3.

Skill Test 1
Click in the box and type the text shown

Now is the time for all good people
to rise up and learn typing without
looking at the keys.

The keyboard known as the "QWERTY" keyboard
was invented by Sholes in 1872 to slow down
typists so as to prevent keys jamming.

Now you can effectively utilize the below keyboard commands to get around
Internet Explorer:

Alt <-- Back one screen          ^P "Print" current page

Alt --> Forward one screen      ^R "Reload" current page

Alt+F4 Closes Netscape           ^S "Save" current page

^F "Find" a word or phrase in the current page

Esc Stop loading current page
